Metrobus Express Service

Metrobus Express Service bus

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) and the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) are committed to reducing traffic congestion and parking problems with innovative transportation options for all District residents. Together we have developed a new bus service called Metrobus Express that includes limited stops and unique vehicles to meet the needs of transit users who want faster bus service in the District.

The Metrobus Express service, formerly called Metro EXTRA, provides a time savings of approximately 15 to 20 percent. Metrobus Express is currently featured as part of the bus services on Georgia Avenue/7th Street, NW and 16th Street, NW.

The Metrobus Express service is provided to District residents on new hybrid electric buses. These buses result in fewer overall air toxic emissions, with no black soot or visible tailpipe emissions. Cleaner air means a cleaner environment, and a cleaner District of Columbia.

Goals

To provide faster, limited-stop bus service for District residents.
