Positive Truck Route Signage Study Public Meeting

Last Date:

Details:

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) invites you to a virtual public meeting about its Positive Truck Route Signage Study on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at 5:30 p.m. The project team will present draft study findings and recommendations and request feedback from the community.

Positive truck route signage refers to signs clearly identifying the routes where trucks should travel. Currently, the District of Columbia uses an advisory truck and bus route network that encourages but does not require, heavy vehicles to travel along designated truck routes, and it installs restriction signs to prohibit buses and through-trucks on select roadways, which the Metropolitan Police Department enforces.

The Positive Truck Route Signage Study looked at jurisdictions that use positive truck route signage to support mandatory truck routes, where heavy vehicles are required to stay on a truck route except when making local deliveries or pickups. This study then estimated the costs and benefits of implementing positive truck route signage and mandatory truck routes in the District and identified potential routes for inclusion in a mandatory truck route network.
