Virtual Public Meetings: Benning Road Bridges and Transportation Improvements Project Final Design

(Washington, DC) — The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will host two public meetings to discuss the Benning Road Bridges and Transportation Improvements Project. At the meetings, DDOT will provide an update on the project, present final design materials, and outline the next steps.

The project seeks to address infrastructure needs and provide better transit connections along approximately two miles of Benning Road NE from Oklahoma Avenue NE to East Capitol Street, including:

  • Enhancing safety and operations along the corridor and at key intersections
  • Improving transportation infrastructure conditions
  • Rehabilitating roadways and bridges that cross the Anacostia River, DC-295, and CSX freight rail tracks
  • Enhancing and installing pedestrian and bicycle facilities
  • Extending streetcar transit service to the Benning Road Metrorail station on a center-running alignment

DDOT produced the final designs for the project following the approval of the Benning Road and Bridges Transportation Improvements Environmental Assessment (November 2020).
