Temporary Lane Closures Continue on Blair Road, Cedar Street, Butternut Street and 4th Street NW Through February 22

(Washington, DC) – The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will continue intermittent lane closures and weekend construction work on the Blair Road/Cedar Street/4th Street NW Intersection Improvement through Saturday, February 22, 2020, weather permitting. Construction activities will take place in the locations described below.

Construction will require intermittent closing of travel lanes on westbound and eastbound Cedar Street, northbound and southbound 4thStreet and westbound and eastbound Butternut Street. Lane closures will take place between 9:30 AM and 3:30 PM on weekdays and between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM on Saturday, if necessary. No construction work will be performed during the President’s Day Holiday weekend from February 15 through 17.

Both lanes on Blair Road, Butternut Street NW and 4th Street NW will also be closed intermittently during this same period for the installation of electrical conduits and electrical manholes along Butternut Street NW and a thrust block for the new fire hydrant at Blair Road.

Roadway users should expect short interruptions to two-way traffic to allow for the installation of duct banks, electrical manholes, streetlight foundations and the placement of concrete and asphalt to fill the trenches upon completion of installation work.

Travel lanes will be tapered as necessary to allow for safe channelizing of traffic. No lane closures other than short curtailments are anticipated. Crosswalks will be closed, and pedestrians will be directed to crosswalks on the other side of the affected roadway. Temporary sidewalk closures and narrowing of sidewalks will be required on Cedar Street NW, Butternut Street NW and 4th Street NW during this period for the construction of sidewalks, curbs and gutters.

Directional signs will be erected to direct travelers safely through the work zone. All users of the roadway are advised to stay alert while traveling through the corridor and to be observant of the work zones.

Once complete, the Blair Road/Cedar Street/4th Street Intersection Improvement Project will increase safety for all users of the roadway travelling through the corridor.
