Temporary Closures on I-295 Northbound and Southbound Through May 23

(Washington, DC) —The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will temporarily close single lanes and shoulders to perform construction activities along the I-295/DC 295 corridor. 

The following closures will be in place daily through Thursday, May 23, 2019 weather permitting:

  • I-295 Northbound: Laboratory Road / US Naval Research Lab (Exit 1) to Suitland Parkway / JBAB (Exit 3A):
  • Left or right lane closure between Exits 1-3 during 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 a.m. from May 20-23.

Left or right shoulder closure between Exits 1-3 during 10:00 am - 3:30 pm from May 20-23.

  • I-295 Southbound: Laboratory Road / US Naval Research Lab (Exit 1) to Suitland Parkway / JBAB (Exit 3A):
  • Left or right lane closure between exits 1-3 from 10:45 p.m. - 5:00 a.m. from May 20-23.
  • Left or right shoulder closure between exits 1-3 during 10:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. from May 20-23.

Additional Work:

  • Left or right lane closure on I-295 SB from Malcolm X Ave. to Laboratory Road / US Naval Research Lab (Exit 1) from 7:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on May 20-23.
  • Left or right lane closure on Malcolm X Ave. WB from I-295 NB ramp to Malcolm X Ave. (Exit 2)/South Capitol Street from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. on May 20-23.
  • Left or right lane closure on Malcolm X Ave. Eastbound from 2nd Strett to South Capitol Street from 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. on May 20-23.
  • Left or right lane closure on Malcolm X Ave. EB from 2nd St. to South Capitol Street from 9:00 p.m. - 5:00 a.m. on May 20-23.
  • Full ramp closure on Ramp 23 from South Capitol St. SE to I-295 NB from 10:00am - 4:00 p.m. on May 20-23. Traffic to I-295 northbound will go through South Capitol Street, SE and Malcolm X Avenue.
     

These closures are required for pavement work, guardrail installation and equipment mobilization associated with multiple DDOT projects aimed at improving the I-295/DC 295 corridor.
