The multi-modal Eastern Avenue NE project, whose limits extend from New Hampshire Avenue NE to the south to Whittier Street NW to the north, includes safety improvements for pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists and improvements to its functionality and the corridor’s appearance. Key project elements include a full-depth roadway reconstruction (from Whittier Street NW to New Hampshire Avenue NE), signal modifications and ADA improvements (at New Hampshire Avenue and Kansas Ave intersections), the addition of new sidewalks, the addition of bicycle lanes, improved drainage, improved lighting, new streetscape elements, and the reduction in vehicle speeds with curb extensions. A new interim traffic signal will be installed at Sligo Mill Road later in 2022, in advance of implementing the improvements listed above.
