Mayor Muriel Bowser and the District Department of Transportation are working to provide a transportation system that is safe, sustainable, and equitable. Part of this commitment is to create a connected network of multi-use trails across the city.
What is the Military Road Trail?
The proposed trail facility is located between Oregon Avenue and 14th Street NW along Military Road in Washington, DC. The proposed trail will provide connections with the extensive north-south trail network within Rock Creek Park. Currently, Military Road is a high-speed arterial with no bicycles and limited pedestrian facilities. This project will increase bicycle and pedestrian safety and provide nonmotorized access to and across Rock Creek Park.
Feasibility Study
In Fall 2021, the National Park Service, in partnership with the USDOT Volpe Center and DDOT, began a feasibility study to look at the various trail alignments along and paralleling Military Road. The feasibility study will be made public in fall 2022.

When will the work be done?
DDOT and NPS are pursuing funding opportunities to complete the design and construction for the full project. There is no schedule for construction at this time.
