DDOT Launches Pilot to Promote Safer Speeds on the Metropolitan Branch Trail

(WASHINGTON, DC) – Today, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) announced the launch of a new pilot project to promote safety on the Metropolitan Branch Trail (MBT), one of the District’s most popular multi-use trails. The pilot will test whether speed feedback signs can help slow vehicle speeds, reduce the concern for collisions, and enhance the experience for people using the trail—especially during busy hours.

DDOT & ANC 8C Neighborhood Safety and Engagement Study Public Meeting

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT), in partnership with ANC 8C, invites you to a community meeting, where we will provide an overview of the Neighborhood Safety and Mobility Study. Join to hear about DDOT’s approach to providing safe infrastructure for roadway users with a focus on the ANC 8C area. This project is the first in the Neighborhood Safety and Mobility Studies program and will evaluate neighborhood-scale transportation needs and identify quickly implementable recommendations to rapidly improve transportation safety, connectivity, and accessibility.

South Dakota Avenue Corridor Safety Project [In-Person]

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT), in partnership with Ward 5 Councilmember Zachary Parker, invites you to attend public meetings for the South Dakota Avenue Corridor Safety Project from Riggs Road NE to Bladensburg Road NE. DDOT will be hosting an in-person meeting on Saturday, December 6, 2025.

DC Streetcar End of Service Virtual Public Meeting

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will host a virtual public meeting on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, to discuss DC Streetcar’s service reduction schedule and planned end of service. DDOT will provide an overview of the decision to phase out DC Streetcar operations, including the timeline for service reduction and the final date of operation.

Benning Road Bridges and Transportation Improvements Project Open House on Nov. 17

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) invites you to attend an open house about updates on DDOT’s Benning Road Bridges and Transportation Improvements Project (Benning Road project). Come to River Terrace anytime between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on November 17th to learn more about the Benning Road project, including details on the latest updates to final design plans and next steps ahead of the anticipated start of construction in summer 2026. The open house will start with a brief presentation by the project team at 6:15 p.m.

East Capitol Street NE/SE Safety and Mobility Project Town Hall

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) invites you to attend a joint Ward 7 town hall with DDOT and Councilmember Felder’s Office about proposed roadway design concepts for mobility and safety improvements for East Capitol Street NE and SE at The Strand 5131 Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue NE on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, from 6 PM - 8 PM.

Minnesota Avenue NE Bus Priority Project Virtual Public Meeting

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) invites you to attend a public meeting about DDOT’s Minnesota Avenue NE Bus Priority Project on October 29, 2025. As part of the Bus Priority Program, the District Department of Transportation is identifying ways to improve safety and bus operations along Minnesota Avenue NE between Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue NE to East Capitol Street SE. This meeting will provide an opportunity for community members to learn more about the project and share feedback on the concept plans.
