Southern Avenue SE Roadway Project: Phase 1 Redesign Improvements Virtual Public Meeting
The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will host a virtual public meeting on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, to present the Redesign of Southern Avenue SE: Phase 1. This project will upgrade intersections and streets to improve safety and accessibility for all users of Southern Avenue SE between the intersection of South Capitol Street and Barnaby Road SE.
Ward 8: Congress Heights Seniors Wellness Center Meeting
DDOT's Ward 8 Community Engagement Specialist will attend a meeting at the Congress Heights Seniors Wellness Center to discuss how to request services from DDOT regarding sidewalk repairs, including tree roots upending the sidewalk. The Specialist will assist with entering service requests to DC 311 and navigating the dashboard.
MLK Jr. Avenue & Marion Barry Avenue SE Safety and Connectivity Study Public Meeting
The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) invites you to a public meeting for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue & Marion Barry Avenue SE Area Safety and Connectivity Study. The project team will be presenting the draft study outcomes to the public, which have been guided by the Community Advisory Group (CAG), Advisory Neighborhood Commissioners (ANCs), residents, businesses, special interest groups, developers, and other key stakeholders within the focus area.
Yvonne Thelwell
Yvonne Thelwell serves as the Deputy Chief Engineer. She joined DDOT in 2020 and has served as the Program Manager for the AWI Mega and Special Projects Branch. Prior to joining DDOT, she had 35 years of experience in the private sector, responsible for the design, construction, and management of major transportation projects throughout the United States and overseas, including the Qatar-Bahran Causeway, the Arlington Memorial Bridge, the Roslyn Viaduct, and the I-90 Logan Airport Interchange.

DDOT's Ward 7 Community Engagement Specialist, Kisha Anderson, will take part in a community walk to observe traffic safety concerns and provide updates on projects in the area.
CM White Ride Along with Director Kershbaum
Councilmember Trayon White invited DDOT Director Sharon Kerhbaum on a Ride Along Southern Avenue, Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, Alabama Avenue, and Navy Yard in Ward 8 to visit and discuss traffic issues and proposed improvements along the noted corridors.
Cleveland Park Drainage and Watershed Improvement Project – Virtual Public Meeting on July 29
The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will host a virtual public meeting to discuss the drainage improvements and stormwater management practices that are being considered to alleviate flooding conditions on Connecticut Avenue NW at the Cleveland Park Metro Station and nearby intersections. Project staff will present the proposed improvements to the Porter-Ordway Sewershed that are based on analyses and evaluations of stormwater sewers throughout the sewershed, the sewer trunk line on Porter Street NW, and the outfall where the stormwater drains into Rock Creek.
