Project Description

Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, SE from South Capitol Street to 4th Street, is classified as a minor arterial that is located in Ward 8. It is an undivided roadway that runs north-south with four lanes between South Capitol Street SE and 1st Street SE and two lanes with separate bike lanes and street parking between 1st Street SE and 4th Street SE. This project will provide an improved and sustainable transportation network, increase pedestrian and vehicular safety, increase efficient travel options, enhance the street and sidewalk, and improve the aesthetics of the corridor. This project supports the Mayor’s Vision Zero Initiative which aims to eliminate all traffic deaths and serious injuries in the District. There are schools, churches, residences, businesses, and residential communities that the corridor must serve.

  • New Traffic Signal installation and Existing Traffic Signal Modification
  • Upgrading Existing Streetlights
  • Constructing ADA Ramps
  • Sidewalk, Curb, and Gutter Reconstructions
  • Improving Signage and Pavement Markings
  • Enhancing Streetscape and Landscaping
  • Roadway Resurfacing
  • Improve roadway drainage
  • DC Water - Water Main Replacement
