9th Street Tunnel To Partially Reopen This Evening

The District Department of Transportation announced that the 9th Street Tunnel, currently closed downtown due to a Metrobus fire, will reopen this evening. Significant progress has been made in the inspection and cleanup effort, allowing the scope of remaining work to be scaled back.

Starting this afternoon, Friday, April 24, 2026, at 5:00 p.m., two lanes of the southbound 9th Street Tunnel will reopen. The right lane will remain closed for lighting repairs until further notice.

DDOT Releases Report on Autonomous Vehicle Policy

Today, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) released a report reviewing how automated vehicles (AV) are regulated across the United States. The report is meant to inform ongoing decision-making on how the District can regulate AVs, but does not make specific policy recommendations. DDOT will be issuing a report this summer on AV deployment legislative and implementation considerations.

Neighborhood Safety and Mobility Study ANC 8C Community Meeting #3



The District Department of Transportation (DDOT), in partnership with ANC 8C, invites you to a community meeting on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at 6:30 pm, where we will provide updates on the ANC 8C Neighborhood Safety and Mobility Study. This will be the last community meeting for this study and will focus on final improvement concepts developed for priority locations. Join us to hear about DDOT’s approach to providing safe infrastructure for roadway users with a focus on the ANC 8C area.

(Washington, DC) – On Monday, March 30 at 11 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser, along with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), the District Department of Transportation (DDOT), and DC Public Schools (DCPS), will celebrate a major milestone in the District’s Kids Ride Free program, marking the distribution of more than 450,000 cards to students across DC. Mayor Bowser will also unveil a new Kids Ride Free card design and participate in a ceremonial Metro “tap and go” with students and families.
