(Washington, DC) – As part of an ongoing reconstruction project, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will close one lane on the Monroe Street NE Bridge, between 8th Street NE and 9th Street NE. This will occur overnight from midnight to 5 am, Monday, March 12 through Friday, March 23, weather permitting.

Before the lane closure begins, however, DDOT will begin to change the traffic pattern on the Monroe Street NE Bridge, on Saturday, March 10, from 7 am to 7 pm, to prepare the roadway.

One lane of traffic will remain open over Monroe Street Bridge during the specified nighttime hours. During lifting of existing girders, there will be a complete road closure at the bridge for 15 minutes intervals. This lane closure is necessary to complete bridge demolition.

DDOT will provide detours and flaggers on both sides of the bridge to guide motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians through the work area and maintain public safety. Motorists should expect moderate-to-heavy delays. DDOT encourages all motorists to stay alert and obey flaggers and construction signage when traveling through this area.
