FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Washington, DC) – The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will temporarily close Pierce Street NE, between North Capitol Street and First Street NE. The closure will start at 10:30 am on Monday, August 28, weather permitting.
During this time, the street will be closed to vehicular traffic, but sidewalks will remain open.
The street closure will occur to convert Pierce Street NE from a one-way to a two-way street as part of a pilot project. As part of the project, 21 parking spaces will be removed.
DDOT has coordinated with Advisory Neighborhood Commission 6C and with the NoMa Business Improvement District (BID) on this pilot street conversion project. The project's goal is to improve access to and mobility in NoMa.
Throughout the pilot, DDOT will collect data and ANC and community feedback.
Traffic controls will be in place throughout the work areas. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes during the closure.
The mission of the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is to enhance the quality of life for District residents and visitors by ensuring that people, goods, and information move efficiently and safely with minimal adverse impact on residents and the environment
