Free, Customizable Mapping Tool Displays Transit Options Near Specific Locations
Media Contacts

(Washington DC) The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) now offers a digital mapping tool that shows the different real-time transportation options that are available at specific locations in the District.

RIDEDC is a free, web-based tool that allows users to easily create their own “custom” dashboard to display a dynamic map of real-time transit options that are available at a given location. Customizable RideDC dashboards are primed to be displayed on monitors at or near District establishments so that visitors can view the various transit options available to get to their next destination.

The RideDC Portal Dashboard map features the following:

  • Metrobus / DC Circulator schedules and Nextbus updates
  • Metrorail arrival predictions
  • Capital Bikeshare bike and open dock availability
  • Carsharing location and car availability

RideDC users can modify the program to display one or all of these various transit options. In addition, users can also customize the program to show transit modes that are available within either two, four or six minutes of walking distance from their establishment.

The RideDC program is compatible with recent versions of most Internet browsers and is meant for large, high-definition (HD) monitors or digital televisions (that is, HD displays (1080P) that are at least 30” wide).

RideDC App Coming in January 2015.

DDOT plans to debut a mobile trip planner app version of RideDC in January 2015 for iOS, Android, and Windows smartphones.
