Traffic and weather monitoring device installation
Ongoing and weather permitting, Maryland State Highway Administration crews will continue installing traffic and weather monitoring devices along the Baltimore-Washington Parkway. Work may be conducted each day between 9:30 am and 3:30 pm, and again between 7:30 pm and 5:30 am.
Clara Barton Parkway
Until Friday, May 18, workers will close the right shoulder of the southbound lanes on the Clara Barton Parkway. The closure is to allow for the replacement of equipment along the shoulder. We will reschedule and possibly extend the work if there is bad weather.
George Washington Memorial Parkway
Arlington Memorial Bridge intermittent lane closures for testing work
Until late-May, construction contractors will close the rightmost east- or westbound lanes on Arlington Memorial Bridge to do geotechnical (soil and rock) testing related to the bridge’s rehabilitation (one will lane close at a time). The closures will occur at night and not during peak travel times. The bridge’s sidewalks will remain open as usual for use by pedestrians and bicyclists.
Arlington Memorial Bridge load limit
A 10-ton load limit for Arlington Memorial Bridge remains in effect indefinitely.
Parkway pothole repair
Ongoing and weather permitting, crews are working to repair potholes along the Clara Barton and George Washington Memorial Parkways. Use caution in these areas and follow workers’ instructions.
Spout Run lane closure
On Saturday, May 12 workers will close the right, inbound lane of Spout Run Parkway from 7 am until 5 pm The closure extends from the outbound turn around to the merge with the southbound George Washington Memorial Parkway. We may reschedule the work if there is bad weather.
U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial road closure
Until spring 2018, the loop road to the U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial from Marshall Drive is closed. This closure will allow contractors to replace the asphalt roadway and replace it with concrete. The memorial will be accessible by pedestrians throughout the project.
Rock Creek Park
Beach Drive reconstruction closure
Until summer 2018, the portion of Beach Drive NW north of the Broad Branch Road NW to Joyce Road NW will remain closed to all users (cars, bikes, and pedestrians). More information at go.nps.gov/beachdrive.
Bingham Road closure through Rock Creek Park between Oregon Avenue and Beach Drive
Until the completion of Segment 4 of the Beach Drive Rehabilitation project in 2019, Bingham Drive NW will remain closed between Oregon Avenue NW and Beach Drive NW. The closure is to facilitate DC Water's rehabilitation of sewer infrastructure along Oregon Avenue NW between Rittenhouse Street NW and Beech Street NW and NPS's rehabilitation of Beach Drive between Joyce Road and the Maryland State Line. The paved trail adjacent to Bingham Drive NW, which connects Oregon Avenue NW to Beach Drive, will remain open for pedestrians and cyclists during construction. Morrow Drive closure
Until summer 2018, Morrow Drive NW will remain closed to vehicle traffic. This temporary closure is to facilitate better emergency response for U.S. Park Police during construction on Beach Drive NW. The road remains open to pedestrians and bicyclists and will reopen to vehicle traffic when this segment of Beach Drive NW is completed. More information at go.nps.gov/beachdrive.
Pennsylvania Avenue Bridge rehabilitation
On Sundays through Thursdays 9 pm to 5 am until mid-2018, there will be alternating single-lane closures on both the northbound and southbound lanes of Rock Creek and Potomac Parkway between Whitehurst Freeway and 500 feet past M Street NW. One lane in each direction will remain open at all times during the work period. The District Department of Transportation is rehabilitating the Pennsylvania Avenue Bridge, and the work is expected to continue for several months.
Piney Branch Parkway resurfacing work
Until late spring, work crews will mill and overlay (resurface) the Piney Branch Parkway between Beach Drive and Arkansas Avenue NW. Drivers should expect delays and some total closures of the road during off-peak, daylight travel hours. The National Park Service does not plan to close the road during rush hour or conduct any night work, but some construction may be scheduled on the weekend. Drivers should watch for workers directing traffic and exercise caution in the work area.
