Intermittent lane closures for equipment removal

Until March 15, expect intermittent lane closures on the northbound Baltimore-Washington Parkway between MD 410 and I-495. The closures will occur between 9 am and 2:30 pm and are to allow the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) to remove equipment and materials from the parkway.

Traffic and weather monitoring device installation

Ongoing and weather permitting, Maryland State Highway Administration crews will continue installing traffic and weather monitoring devices along the Baltimore-Washington Parkway. Work may be conducted each day between 9:30 am and 3:30 pm, and again between 7:30 pm and 5:30 am.

George Washington Memorial Parkway

Arlington Memorial Bridge load limit

A 10-ton load limit for Arlington Memorial Bridge remains in effect indefinitely.

Arlington Memorial Bridge survey work

Ongoing and weather permitting, there will be intermittent lane closures on the Arlington Memorial Bridge to allow for survey work related to the bridge’s rehabilitation. Closures will not occur during peak travel times.

CIA Bridge reconstruction day closure

From Monday, March 12 until Friday, March 16, the ramp from the CIA Headquarters to the northbound side of the George Washington Parkway will be closed from 10:00 a.m. until 2:30 pm.

CIA Bridge reconstruction night closure

From Sunday, March 18 until Friday, March 23, the ramp from the CIA Headquarters to the northbound side of the George Washington Parkway will be closed from 7 pm until 5 am.

Parkway pothole repair

Ongoing and weather permitting, crews are working to repair potholes along the Clara Barton and George Washington Memorial Parkways. Motorists are advised to drive with caution through these areas and to follow the instructions of personnel in the work zones.

U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial road closure

Until late winter or early spring 2018, the loop road to the U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial from Marshall Drive is closed. This closure will allow contractors to replace the asphalt roadway and replace it with concrete. The memorial will be accessible by pedestrians throughout the project.

National Mall and Memorial Parks

17th Street lane closure

Until approximately March 12, two lanes on southbound 17th Street NW between Constitution Avenue NW and Home Front Drive SW (at the World War II Memorial) will be closed for construction activities associated with Phase I of the rehabilitation of Constitution Gardens.

Constitution Avenue lane closure

Until approximately March 12, the right-hand eastbound lane of Constitution Avenue will be closed between 18th Street NW and 17th Street NW to allow for exposed aggregate concrete work related to the relocation of the Lockkeeper's House. Signs and warning devices will direct motorists through the area.

Madison Drive closure
From March 7 through March 11, Madison Drive NW will be closed from 4th to 7th Streets, and from 12th to 14th Streets nightly from 6 pm until 5 am. The Department of Homeland Security requested the closure to allow for the installation of temporary cell towers to be used during the March For Our Lives on March 24. Dates subject to change depending on weather conditions.

Rock Creek and Potomac Parkway northbound double lane closure adjacent to the Kennedy Center

On Tuesday, March 13 and Thursday, March 15, both of the northbound lanes of the Rock Creek and Potomac Parkway at the Kennedy Center will be closed from 6:30 am to 3:45 pm. During this time, all northbound traffic will be diverted onto the I-66 Potomac Freeway. Traffic in southbound lanes of the Rock Creek and Potomac Parkway will not be affected (note: this is the normal morning rush hour traffic pattern. The northbound closure will begin 1 hour and 45 minutes earlier than normal adjacent to the Kennedy Center). The closure will extend from Ohio Drive on the south to F Street NW on the north and is to facilitate a concrete pour related to expansion of the Kennedy Center.

Rock Creek Park

Beach Drive reconstruction closure

Until fall 2018, the portion of Beach Drive NW north of the Broad Branch Road NW to Joyce Road NW will remain closed to all users (cars, bikes, and pedestrians). More information at go.nps.gov/beachdrive.

Bingham Road closure through Rock Creek Park between Oregon Avenue and Beach Drive

Bingham Drive NW will remain closed between Oregon Avenue NW and Beach Drive NW until the completion of Segment 4 of the Beach Drive Rehabilitation project in 2019. The closure is to facilitate DC Water's rehabilitation of sewer infrastructure along Oregon Avenue NW between Rittenhouse Street NW and Beech Street NW and NPS's work rehabilitation of Beach Drive between Joyce Road and the Maryland State Line. The paved trail adjacent to Bingham Drive NW, which connects Oregon Avenue NW to Beach Drive, will remain open for pedestrians and cyclists during construction. For information about roadwork associated with this project and for detour information, visit www.dcwater.com/workzones/projects/oregon-avenue-sewer-rehab.cfm.

Morrow Drive closure

Until fall 2018, Morrow Drive NW will remain closed to vehicle traffic. This temporary closure is to facilitate better emergency response for U.S. Park Police during construction on Beach Drive NW. The road remains open to pedestrians and bicyclists and will reopen to vehicle traffic when this segment of Beach Drive NW is completed. More information at go.nps.gov/beachdrive.

Pennsylvania Avenue Bridge rehabilitation

On Sundays through Thursdays 9 pm to 5 am until mid-2018, there will be alternating single-lane closures on both the northbound and southbound lanes of Rock Creek and Potomac Parkway between Whitehurst Freeway and 500 feet past M Street NW. One lane in each direction will remain open at all times during the work period. The District Department of Transportation is rehabilitating the Pennsylvania Avenue Bridge, and the work is expected to continue for several months.

Tunnel survey work temporarily closes Beach Drive sidewalk near National Zoo

On Monday, March 12, a contractor will perform geotechnical survey work (soil and rock testing) at the south portal of the Beach Drive NW tunnel near the National Zoo. In order to provide space for equipment and allow personnel to work safely, staff will close the sidewalk inside the tunnel from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Trail users will be directed to use the zoo loop trail to bypass the tunnel during the closure.
