Friday, February 2, 2018

Baltimore-Washington Parkway

Traffic and weather monitoring device installation

Ongoing and weather permitting, Maryland State Highway Administration crews will continue installing traffic and weather monitoring devices along the Baltimore-Washington Parkway. Work may be conducted each day between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., and again between 7:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.

George Washington Memorial Parkway

Arlington Memorial Bridge load limit

A 10-ton load limit for Arlington Memorial Bridge remains in effect indefinitely.

Clara Barton Parkway pothole repair

Ongoing and weather permitting, crews are working to repair potholes along the Clara Barton Parkway. Motorists are advised to drive with caution through these areas and to follow the instructions of personnel in the work zones.

National Airport to Daingerfield Island night lane closure

From February 5 to February 16 the right lane on the southbound side of George Washington Parkway will close overnight between National Airport and Daingerfield Island. Closures will begin at 9 p.m. and last until 5 a.m.

U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial road closure

Until February 2018, the loop road to the U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial from Marshall Drive is closed. This closure will allow contractors to replace the asphalt roadway and replace it with concrete. The memorial will be accessible by pedestrians throughout the project.

National Mall and Memorial Parks

17th Street lane closure

Until approximately February 26, a single lane on southbound 17th Street NW between Constitution Avenue NW and Home Front Drive SW (at the World War II Memorial) will remain closed for construction activities associated with Phase I of the rehabilitation of Constitution Gardens. Starting on Monday, February 12, a second southbound lane will be closed. This will allow one travel lane in each direction.

Constitution Avenue lane closure

Until approximately February 26, the right-hand eastbound lane of Constitution Avenue will remain closed between 18th Street NW and 17th Street NW to allow for exposed aggregate concrete work related to the relocation of the Lockkeeper's House. Signs and warning devices will be in place to help motorists navigate through the area.

Kennedy Center single lane closure

From Monday, February 5 until Friday, February 9 there will be a single lane closure along the Rock Creek Parkway from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The rightmost northbound lane will be closed from just south of the Roosevelt Bridge to just north of the Kennedy Center.

Kennedy Center double lane closure

On Thursday, February 8 both of the northbound lanes of the Rock Creek and Potomac Parkway will be closed from 6 a.m. until 3 p.m. During this time, north and southbound traffic lanes will be reduced to one lane each using the two southbound lanes. The closure will extend from just south of the Roosevelt Bridge to just north of the Kennedy Center. The closure is to facilitate a concrete pour related to the expansion of the Kennedy Center. This closure is weather-dependent. The alternative date for this closure is Monday, February 12. Additional double lane closures will also be necessary, but the dates have not been determined.

Rock Creek Park

Beach Drive reconstruction closure

Until fall 2018, the portion of Beach Drive north of the Broad Branch Road NW to Joyce Road NW will remain closed to all users (cars, bikes, and pedestrians). More information at go.nps.gov/beachdrive.

Bingham Road closure through Rock Creek Park between Oregon Ave NW and Beach Drive NW

Until November 2018, Bingham Drive NW will remain closed between Oregon Avenue NW and Beach Drive NW. This is part of a DC Water project to rehabilitate sewer infrastructure along Oregon Ave NW from Rittenhouse Street NW to Beech Street NW. The paved trail adjacent to Bingham Drive, which connects Oregon Avenue NW to Beach Drive, will remain open for pedestrians and cyclists during construction. For information about affiliated roadwork, not on NPS land, and detours, visit www.dcwater.com/workzones/projects/oregon-avenue-sewer-rehab.cfm.

Morrow Drive closure

On February 5 at 9:30 a.m., Rock Creek Park will close Morrow Drive to vehicles. This temporary closure is to facilitate better emergency response for U.S. Park Police during construction on Beach Drive. The road will remain open to pedestrians and bicyclists and will reopen to vehicle traffic when this segment of Beach Drive is completed in fall 2018. More information at go.nps.gov/beachdrive.

Pennsylvania Avenue Bridge rehabilitation

On Sundays through Thursdays 9 p.m to 5 a.m. until mid-2018, there will be alternating single-lane closures on both the northbound and southbound lanes of Rock Creek and Potomac Parkway between Whitehurst Freeway and 500 feet past M Street. One lane in each direction will remain open at all times during the work period. The District Department of Transportation is rehabilitating the Pennsylvania Avenue Bridge, and the work is expected to continue for several months.
