Traffic and weather monitoring device installation

Ongoing and weather permitting, Maryland State Highway Administration crews will continue installing traffic and weather monitoring devices along the Baltimore-Washington Parkway. Work may be conducted each day between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., and again between 7:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.

George Washington Memorial Parkway

Arlington Memorial Bridge intermittent lane closures for testing work

Until the first week of May, construction contractors will close the rightmost east- or westbound lanes on Arlington Memorial Bridge to do geotechnical (soil and rock) testing related to the bridge’s rehabilitation (one will lane close at a time). The closures are scheduled to occur at night and not during peak travel times. The bridge’s sidewalks will remain open as usual for use by pedestrians and bicyclists.

Arlington Memorial Bridge load limit

A 10-ton load limit for Arlington Memorial Bridge remains in effect indefinitely.

CIA Bridge night closure
From Sunday, April 15 until Friday, April 20, the ramp from the CIA campus to the northbound George Washington Memorial Parkway will be closed for ongoing construction work. The closures will last from 7 p.m. until 5 a.m. Workaround the bridge will continue until late summer 2018.

Parkway pothole repair

Ongoing and weather permitting, crews are working to repair potholes along the Clara Barton and George Washington Memorial Parkways. Use caution in these areas and follow workers’ instructions.

U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial road closure

Until late winter or early spring 2018, the loop road to the U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial from Marshall Drive is closed. This closure will allow contractors to replace the asphalt roadway and replace it with concrete. The memorial will be accessible by pedestrians throughout the project.

National Mall and Memorial Parks

17th Street lane closure
Until April 27, a single lane on southbound 17th Street NW between Constitution Avenue NW and Home Front Drive SW (at the World War II Memorial) will remain closed for construction activities associated with Phase I of the rehabilitation of Constitution Gardens.

Ohio Drive SW traffic shift for cherry blossom traffic

Until Sunday, April 15, the National Park Service will only allow drivers to travel in one direction (westbound) on Ohio Drive SW through West Potomac Park from the Inlet Bridge to Independence Avenue. The change is to ease traffic congestion during cherry blossom season. A map showing the change is attached to this message. The National Park Service will allow traffic on Ohio Drive SW to return to its regular pattern (eastbound and westbound) on Monday, April 16.

Rock Creek and Potomac Parkway lane closure adjacent to the Kennedy Center

On Tuesday, April 17, Wednesday, April 18 and Thursday, April 19, construction workers will close one lane of the Rock Creek and Potomac Parkway from 6:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. The rightmost, northbound lane will be closed from south of the Roosevelt Bridge to the area immediately north of the Kennedy Center. This closure is related to ongoing construction work at the Kennedy Center.

Rock Creek Park

Beach Drive reconstruction closure

Until fall 2018, the portion of Beach Drive NW north of the Broad Branch Road NW to Joyce Road NW will remain closed to all users (cars, bikes and pedestrians). More information at go.nps.gov/beachdrive.

Bingham Road closure through Rock Creek Park between Oregon Avenue and Beach Drive

Bingham Drive NW will remain closed between Oregon Avenue NW and Beach Drive NW until the completion of Segment 4 of the Beach Drive Rehabilitation project in 2019. The closure is to facilitate DC Water's rehabilitation of sewer infrastructure along Oregon Avenue NW between Rittenhouse Street NW and Beech Street NW and NPS's rehabilitation of Beach Drive between Joyce Road and the Maryland State Line. The paved trail adjacent to Bingham Drive NW, which connects Oregon Avenue NW to Beach Drive, will remain open for pedestrians and cyclists during construction. For information about roadwork associated with these projects and for detour information, visit www.dcwater.com/workzones/projects/oregon-avenue-sewer-rehab.cfm and go.nps.gov/beachdrive.

Intermittent lane closures on Beach Drive
Until late April, a construction contractor will temporarily close one lane on Beach Drive near the Edgewater Bridge to move equipment and supplies. The contractor will install stormwater management, bio-retention cells (areas to hold rainwater from storms). The lane closures may last up to 30 minutes each and will occur during the day in off-peak travel times.

Morrow Drive closure

Until fall 2018, Morrow Drive NW will remain closed to vehicle traffic. This temporary closure is to facilitate better emergency response for U.S. Park Police during construction on Beach Drive NW. The road remains open to pedestrians and bicyclists and will reopen to vehicle traffic when this segment of Beach Drive NW is completed. More information at go.nps.gov/beachdrive.

Pennsylvania Avenue Bridge rehabilitation

On Sundays through Thursdays 9 p.m to 5 a.m. until mid-2018, there will be alternating single-lane closures on both the northbound and southbound lanes of Rock Creek and Potomac Parkway between Whitehurst Freeway and 500 feet past M Street NW. One lane in each direction will remain open at all times during the work period. The District Department of Transportation is rehabilitating the Pennsylvania Avenue Bridge, and the work is expected to continue for several months.
