FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Lane Closures Continue on 4th Street and Cedar Street NW Through November 16
(Washington, DC) – The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will continue intermittent lane closures and weekend construction work on the Blair Road/Cedar Street/4th Street NW Intersection Improvement project through Saturday, November 16, 2019, weather permitting.
Construction will require intermittent closing of the travel lanes on 4th Street NW between Butternut Street NW and Cedar Street NW. Lane closures will be in place between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on weekdays and between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays if required. No work will be performed on Sunday.
The eastbound lane of Cedar Street NW west of Blair Road will also be closed intermittently during this same period for the installation of sewer manholes and relocation of a fire hydrant. Roadway users should expect short interruptions to two-way traffic to allow for the installation of duct banks and sewer lines and the placement of concrete and asphalt to fill the trenches upon completion of the utility installations.
Removal of the existing catch basin on 4th Street NW near Butternut Street NW and installation of a new one will begin and continue through the week of November 11.
Drivers should anticipate travel lanes to be tapered as necessary to allow safe channelizing of traffic through the work zones. No lane closures other than short curtailments noted are anticipated. Some crosswalks will be closed and pedestrians will be directed to crosswalks on the other side of the affected roadway. Sidewalk closures may be required on Cedar Street and 4th Street during this period.
Directional signs will be erected to direct travelers safely through the work zone. All users of the roadway are advised to stay alert while traveling through the corridor and to be observant of the work zone.
Once complete, the Blair Road/Cedar Street/4th Street Intersection Improvement Project will increase safety for all users of the roadway traveling through the corridor.
