DDOT Traffic Advisory: South Capitol Street Bridge Temporary Closures Through April 13

(Washington, DC) — The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will temporarily close single lanes and shoulders on the following roadways to perform testing and pre-construction activities for the South Capitol Street Corridor Project.

The following single lane closures will be in place daily from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm, through Friday, April 13, 2018, weather permitting.

  • Potomac Avenue SE westbound at South Capitol Street SE
  • I-295 northbound North of Howard Road SE
  • Potomac Avenue, SW eastbound at South Capitol Street, SW
  • South Capitol Street SE northbound at Potomac Avenue SE
  • South Capitol Street SE northbound from Firth Sterling Avenue SE to Suitland Parkway SE
  • Howard Road SE from Suitland Parkway, SE to Shannon Place, SE
  • Firth Sterling Avenue SE northbound On-Ramp to I-295
  • Firth Sterling Avenue SE from Howard Road SE to Barry Road SE
  • Suitland Parkway from Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SE to South Capitol Street SE
  • Barry Road SE northbound at Firth Sterling Avenue SE

The following single lane and ramp closures will be in place nightly from 9 pm to 5 am through Friday, April 13, 2018, weather permitting.

  • I-295 southbound from Howard Road SE to Firth Sterling Avenue, SE
  • I-295 northbound North of Howard Road SE

These closures are required for pre-construction work associated with the South Capitol Street Corridor Project and the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge Replacement which calls for the replacement of the 68-year-old bridge and reconstruction of the Suitland Parkway/I-295 interchange.

Motorists are urged to use caution as they travel in these areas, to anticipate moderate delays, and to be mindful construction personnel.
