Long-Range Transportation Plan sets Direction for 25 Years of Investments

Washington, DC - The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) has released the draft moveDC Transportation Plan. The plan is the culmination of a process that has involved thousands of residents from the District and the Washington metropolitan region. The moveDC Plan is a comprehensive, multimodal transportation strategy that outlines policies, programs and capital investments to enhance the District’s transportation network, and includes detailed “elements” or “master plans” for each mode of travel in the District.

“Building a world-class, sustainable city in the District of Columbia has always been one of the principal goals of my administration, and moveDC plays an integral role in advancing this effort,” said Mayor Vincent C. Gray. “It is so exciting to see the hard work and energy of District residents pay off in a plan that will continue to move us forward into the future.”

The development of moveDC began with a public kick-off meeting in February 2013, and continued with a series of public workshops and other, novel ways to engage citizens in the transportation planning process.

“I would like to thank the thousands of people who participated in the planning process—in meetings and workshops and through social media, surveys, webinars, emails and countless casual conversations,” said DDOT Acting Director Matthew Brown. “Your suggestions, critical thinking, comments, inspiring ideas and concerns contributed significantly to the plan’s development. We are grateful for the time you have given to planning our transportation future,”

DDOT is welcoming public comments on the draft plan through July 31, 2014. In addition to electronic versions of the draft plan that are available on the project website, copies of the draft moveDC Plan will be available at DDOT’s offices at 55 M Street SE and the DDOT Public Space Permit Center at 1100 4th Street, SW. The draft plan will be also be available on CDs at DC Public Libraries.

The project website has a brief survey for gathering feedback, or comments can be sent via email to Project Manager Colleen Hawkinson or mailed to DDOT at 55 M Street, SE, 5th Floor, Washington DC 20003.

In addition, the Council of the District of Columbia’s Committee on Transportation and the Environment will hold a roundtable on the draft moveDC Plan at 11 a.m. on June 27, 2014 at the John A. Wilson Building, 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW.

A final plan will be completed this summer.
