DDOT Begins Reconstruction of Monroe Street NE Bridge August 9

(Washington, DC) – The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will shift the traffic pattern on the Monroe Street NE Bridge between 8th Street NE and 9th Street NE Wednesday, August 9, 2017, as part of the reconstruction project. This phase of work is expected to last three-to-five weeks, weather permitting.

Eastbound lanes will be closed and traffic will be shifted to the westbound lanes with a single lane in each direction. The sidewalk on the south side of the bridge will be closed and all pedestrians will be directed to the north side. This reconstruction project includes manhole installation at the east and west ends of the bridge.

Signage and protective barriers will be used to guide motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians through the work area and maintain public safety. Motorists should expect moderate delays.

DDOT encourages all motorists to stay alert and obey construction signage when traveling through this area.
