(Washington, DC) - The District of Columbia Building Industry Association (DCBIA) yesterday presented District Department of Transportation (DDOT) Director Leif Dormsjo with the 2017 Public Service Achievement Award.
The award recognizes the Director's commitment to strengthening DDOT's relationship with the development community and promoting efficient, sustainable modes of transportation and infrastructure.

"I am honored to receive this award on behalf of my DDOT team," said Dormsjo. "The past few years' successes have required a tremendous team effort. I think our team's cohesiveness and commitment to our work is really the explanation for why we were recognized with this award. To have a prominent organization like DCBIA recognize our team for leadership means a lot."

Dormsjo was appointed Director in January 2015 and oversees a team of more than 900 people. Among his accomplishments, he has launched the District’s modern streetcar line; led the interagency Vision Zero safety initiative to eliminate fatalities and serious injuries by 2024; supported urban forestry, enabling DC to become a leader in urban tree canopy; and implemented “TranStat,” a performance reporting and process improvements program using a data-driven approach.

"Transportation plays such an important role in the development of our city," said Lisa Mallory, DCBIA CEO. "We are delighted to award Director Dormsjo for his leadership and building a team of professionals that meet the complex needs of our time."

For three decades, DCBIA has presented achievement awards to real estate development industry leaders for outstanding contributions to the District through innovative economic development, revitalization and/or extraordinary community service. This year's winners were honored at DCBIA's annual black-tie gala. Fellow recipients include Freddie Lewis Archer (Community Impact/Small Business Award) and Richard Lake (Developer of the Year Award).
