In response to WMATA's decision to close the Red Line between the NoMa-Gallaudet University and Fort Totten Stations for 45 days from Saturday, July 21 through Monday, September 3, 2018 for major repair work, the District Department of Tranpsortation (DDOT) in coordination with WMATA is taking steps to mitigate the impact to the transportation network. Steps that may affect the community include:
- Establishment of a TEMPORARY Bus Lane in both directions on Rhode Island Avenue NE from North Capitol Street to 12th Street NE. There is no parking allowed on Rhode Island Avenue NE from North Capitol Street to 12th Street NE from 7:00 am until 7:00 pm, Monday through Saturday.
- TEMPORARILY extending Rush Hour Parking Restrictions on North Capitol Street from Massachusetts Avenue to Michigan Avenue. Morning rush hour restrictions will be enforced from 7:00 am - 10:00 am. Evening rush hour restrictions will be enforced from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm.
ALL RESTRICTIONS WILL BE ENFORCED WITH TICKETING AND TOWING.
DDOT and WMATA have informed the public of the impact of the Red Line Closure and have notified and coordinatied with community representatives, including, affected Advisory Neighborhood Commissions (ANCs), civic and/or neighborhood associations, and the Ward 5 Councilmember.
