AlleyPalooza 6 is part of Mayor Muriel Bowser's ongoing initiative to focus on alley repair in the District of Columbia. Launched in 2015, AlleyPalooza and AlleyPalooza 2 were summer programs focused on the reconstruction and repair of 64 alleys, eight in each of the eight wards across the city. AlleyPalooza 3 and AlleyPalooza 4 kicked off in 2016. AlleyPalooza 5 launched earlier this year, and now, AlleyPalooza 6 will start October 2017.
What is AlleyPalooza 6.0?
The program will provide targeted, expedited alley maintenance services for residents of the District of Columbia. Mayor Bowser has pledged to invest $175 million over the next 6 years in the District's local infrastructure, roads, alleys, and sidewalks. AlleyPalooza 6.0 will cost approximately $7.2 million (including construction and labor costs).
To provide construction, improvement, and repairs to 8 alleys in each of the 8 wards in 12 weeks for a total of 64 alleys.
This is a core activity for the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) to help improve the condition, functionality, safety and accessibility of the District's 350-mile alley network. Well-maintained alleys provide convenient access points to buildings, garages, garbage pick-up, and loading docks.
DDOT is responsible for the repair and maintenance of the District’s road network. DDOT prioritizes repairs by classification which are categorized by the following: arterial streets, non-arterial streets, paved alleys and unpaved alleys.
In selecting Palooza alleys, DDOT considers alley conditions, the age of the 311 service requests and the number of requests received. Additionally, DDOT coordinates with MOCRS, ANCs and residents to determine the 64 alleys selected for an AlleyPalooza.
How Can a Resident Request an Alley Repair?
Residents can notify DDOT in a variety of ways:
- Call the Mayor's Call Center at 311;
- Use the Online Service Request Center at 311.dc.gov; and
- Use the District's DC311 smartphone application.
