WASHINGTON, DC - The District Department of Transportation has released a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for qualified carshare companies to participate in the District Curbside Carshare Program. The existing contract for the rental of public space for carshare vehicles has expired and DDOT will be continuing the program. This RFQ will offer opportunities for new carshare companies to participate in the program.
Carsharing began in Washington, DC in 2001 when two private companies, Flexcar and Zipcar, began operations in the region. Since that time, a low emission fleet of cars has been growing near Metro stations and neighborhood centers throughout the District. Since October 2005, DDOT has provided a limited number of strategically-placed curbside parking spaces for the exclusive use of carsharing vehicles as part of a commitment to reducing congestion and parking problems with innovative transportation options such as carsharing which provides the mobility of a car without the expense and hassle of car ownership.
The full RFQ can be found at On Your Streetcar Sharing. Responses must be received by Friday, June 14, 2013.
