Infrastructure Project Management Division (IPMD) is responsible for the design, engineering and construction of roadways, bridges, and large infrastructural projects in the District of Columbia. IPMD also manages special construction projects and all roadway assets.

IPMA comprises the following four divisions:

Design and Project Management Division is divided into ward-based teams that design and construct transportation infrastructure projects. They manage the condition of the streets, sidewalks and alleys--DDOT's most visible work. This division is overseen by the Deputy Chief Engineer for Design and Construction Team Management.

Anacostia Waterfront Initiative/Special Projects Division leads the effort in transforming the Anacostia Riverfront by planning, designing, and constructing transportation infrastructure in the area. This division manages AWI and special projects such as the baseball stadium area infrastructure and stormwater management.

Storm Water Management Branch
"Greening" the District's transportation infrastructure to meet new initiatives, environmental objectives, and regulations by ensuring that all DDOT projects minimize storm water runoff.

Quality Assurance and Quality Control Division has a mission is to evaluate construction materials, review design plans and special provisions, perform engineering investigation of materials related problems, promote geotechnical engineering, enforce specification standardization,  require calibration of testing apparatus and procedures, use new materials for construction projects, and respond to citizen complaints concerning vibration and drainage.
Field Operations and Research Branch
Monitor construction projects, collect and test samples to ensure all construction materials used meet DDOT standard and specification requirements.
Materials Testing Branch
Perform extensive laboratory tests on collected samples to ensure all construction materials used meet DDOT standard and specification requirements.
Materials Producers Control Branch
Inspect and approve material supplier and sources, storage, plants, equipment and plant quality control programs meet DDOT standard and specification requirements.
Project Development & Environment Division is responsible for work zone reviews, utility coordination, right-of-way management, preliminary engineering and design, constructability reviews, major projects coordination, environmental reviews and approvals, sustainability and climate change adaptation. The project development process, environmental policies and processes, and Interstate access and approval process are also maintained by this division.


To manage the design, engineering and construction of roadways, bridges, traffic signals and alley projects in the District of Columbia.
