
Introduction
The District Department of Transportation, along with a consulting team from Wilbur Smith & Associates, and KLS Engineering, have embarked on a study of the South Dakota Avenue corridor from Hamilton Street, NE, to V Street, NE. The South Dakota Avenue Transportation and Streetscape Study focuses on comprehensive transportation and streetscape improvements intended to enhance safety and strengthen economic development and vitality of the community.
Study Goals and Objectives
- Reduce traffic congestion at key intersections
- Promote pedestrian safety
- Reduce impact of truck traffic on residential neighborhoods
- Bicycle mobility and paths
- Improve and enhance the streetscape
Elements of the Study
As a part of public outreach programs, the following initiatives will be undertaken:
- Public meetings including a community workshop
- Hand, email and mail distribution of meeting notices
- Online questionnaire for local residents
- Published reports
