
Dawit Muluneh is DDOT’s Interim Chief Project Delivery Officer. He is responsible for the technical, administrative direction and implementation of the Infrastructure Project Management Division (IPMD), Planning and Sustainability Division, Transit Delviery Division, Traffic Engineering and Safety Division and our Vision Zero Division.
Previously, as Chief Engineer, Mr. Muluneh oversees design and construction projects valued at over $1 billion dollars and his duties include short- and long-range planning, oversight of engineering design, construction and construction inspection as well as testing and evaluation of equipment, materials and systems. Additionally, he assisted in developing new procedures to improve internal processes related to project delivery, quality and accountability.
Mr. Muluneh has been with the department since 2002. During his tenure at DDOT, Mr. Muluneh has served at different levels of management in the Infrastructure Project Management Administration (IPMA) and was responsible for a wide array of roadway and bridge design and construction.
Previous to joining DDOT, Mr. Muluneh worked in the public and private sectors. He has more than 22 years of experience in highway engineering.
Mr. Muluneh holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from South Dakota State University and Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from Catholic University of America. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the District of Columbia. He is also a voting member of AASHTO.
