Wasim Raja, P.E. leads DDOT’s Traffic Engineering and Signals Division (TESD) which focuses on improving District’s multimodal transportation system by designing and constructing traffic safety projects. Raja has over 20 years of public and private sector experience in transportation engineering. He joined DDOT in 2010 to manage DDOT’s Traffic Signals and Intelligent Transportation Systems. Over the last 10 years, Raja and his team have implemented over 300 intersection modification projects to improve safety and mobility of multi-modal traffic throughout the city. Prior to joining DDOT, he oversaw public and private sector projects involving design, construction, maintenance, and operation of multi-modal traffic systems; traffic engineering and safety studies; traffic signal optimization; transportation management planning; and transit signal prioritization. Wasim also contributed to Northern Virginia Mega Projects, including high-occupancy toll lanes and the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Projects.
Mr. Raja holds a master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Kansas and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and technology from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, in Mumbai, India.
