Soumya S. Dey, P.E., PMP, is DDOT's Associate Director of Traffic Operations and Safety. He has served in several leadership positions at DDOT including Director of Research and Technology Transfer, Acting Associate Director for Transportation Operations and Interim Chief Traffic Engineer.
Soumya brings 25 years of experience in the transportation profession, spanning the public and private sector. Prior to joining DDOT, he worked for a metropolitan planning organization in the Chicago area and for two premier consulting firms: TransCore/SAIC and AECOM. His areas of expertise include intelligent transportation systems, research, systems operations and management, traffic engineering, safety, planning and parking.
He is a recognized thought leader in the application of technology and big data analytics to enhance the efficiency and operation of urban transportation networks. Soumya has a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, a master's in civil engineering from Purdue University and an MBA from the University of Maryland. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), a registered professional engineer, a certified project management professional and a Black Belt in Lean Six Sigma. He is a recipient of ITE’s Past Presidents Award and the Cafritz Award from George Washington University’s Center for Excellence in Public Leadership.
