Washington, DC - The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will be implementing a series of temporary lane and sidewalk closures on K Street, NW, between 12th Street and 21st Street, to allow for utility work as part of an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Improvement project in this corridor.
Temporary lane and sidewalk closures at intersections along K Street, NW, between 12th Street and 21st Street, and will affect K Street and cross streets in the corridor. The closures will take place from Monday, March 3 to Monday, March 31, 2014 and will be limited to non-consecutive intersections during off-peak hours, from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm.
Temporary signs and barricades will be in place to alert and guide the traveling public in this area. DDOT encourages all commuters to stay alert as they travel in this corridor. All construction related work and dates are subject to change, depending on weather, utility companies, material and contract availability or other unforeseen conditions.
As part of DDOT’s efforts to improve safety, accessibility, and mobility for pedestrians and motorists alike, the work on K Street, NW, will consist of the construction of ADA compliant pedestrian facilities located at signalized intersections and bus stops along K Street, NW, from the 12th Street intersection to the 21st Street intersection. The project involves reconstruction of pedestrian ramps at the signalized intersections, addition of accessible pedestrian signals and pushbuttons at each roadway crossing, removal, reconstruction of existing bus stops and the respective accessible pathways to the bus stops, and removal/installation of multiple storm drains.
