Potholepalooza Daily Updates

April 10, 2009
On the final working day of Potholepalooza, DDOT crews filled 125 potholes. That puts them over the 6,000 mark for the entire month-long campaign. Hats off to the entire pothole team!

April 9, 2009
Only 11 service requests for pothole repairs were received on Thursday, April 9. Hopefully that means Potholepalooza has made an impact. But crews still scoured the city for more roadway surface in need of patching and filled 239 potholes on the second to last day of this month-long campaign.

April 8, 2009
We’re rolling close to the 6,000 mark with 2 working days left in Potholepalooza. On Wednesday, April 8, crews kept up their steady pace, closing out 18 service requests and making 195 pothole repairs.

April 7, 2009
29 people participated in Potholepalooza on Tuesday April 7, sending in their service requests for repairs. Street and Bridge Maintenance crews completed those requests and filled a total of 252 potholes.

April 6, 2009
19 service requests were completed on Monday, April 6 and DDOT crews filled a total of 137 potholes.

April 3, 2009
Crews completed 31 service requests and filled 340 potholes on Friday. That capped off a very productive week for Potholepalooza with a total of 1,674 repairs made from March 30 to April 3. That means, as we kick off the final week, we’ve already filled more than 5,000 potholes since this campaign began on March 11.

April 2, 2009
Thanks to the service requests that continue to come in from city residents and drivers, DDOT crews found 124 potholes on Thursday, April 2, and made the necessary repairs. But that’s not the complete story: they also found and filled an additional 298 potholes by scouting roadways throughout the 8 wards. The total tally for the day: 422 potholes repaired.

April 1, 2009
No fooling: DDOT Crews filled 425 potholes on April 1. 215 were from service requests and an additional 210 were found and filled by crews and pothole killer trucks on proactive patrols. Impressive work.

March 31, 2009
Thirty-two service requests were received on Tuesday, March 31, and crews filled a total of 246 potholes for the day. We are now just a stone’s throw from the 4,000 mark, thanks to the hard-working men and women in DDOT’s Street and Bridge Maintenance Branch. That includes the crew pictured here making repairs in the 1800 block of Gainesville Street, SE, on Tuesday. This was a deep patching job; using a jackhammer they squared out a section of the roadway around a large pothole, then filled it in with fresh asphalt and rolled it flat. The repair should last at least three years.
The crew members are Donald Ferrell, Derrick Jones, Brenda Johnson, Eugene Love, Andrea Williams, Michael Jackson, Michael Johnson and Keith Ellerbe. The General Foreman is Anthony Deas and the superintendent is Jeff Baxter.

Potholepalooza slogged on through the rain on Thursday, March 26, with impressive results: 51 potholes filled from service requests and 319 additional potholes found and filled by crews on patrol and “pothole killer” trucks. 370 total repairs made during the day.

March 25, 2009
Street and bridge maintenance crews filled 274 potholes on Wednesday, March 25; not bad considering only seven service requests were received from residents and motorists. But the crews found plenty of work to keep them busy on their spray patch preventative routes and by proactively patrolling the wards.

March 20, 2009
26 requests from residents and motorists pointed DDOT crews to 176 potholes on Friday, March 20. They filled all of those holes along with another 91 potholes proactively located by street and bridge maintenance workers. In all, 267 potholes were filled on the tenth day of Potholepalooza.

March 19, 2009
Residents and motorists reported 63 potholes – a decline from previous days – but pothole crews were still busy proactively scouting all 8 wards for additional potholes. March 18, 2009
Street and bridge maintenance crews filled 204 potholes on Wednesday, March 18. Six days into this campaign, we’ve received and resolved 199 service requests and we’ve filled a grand total of 1702 potholes since the Mayor kicked off Potholepalooza last week. Many service requests are for multiple potholes on the same street, and our crews are also proactively looking for and repairing potholes they spot.

March 17, 2009
DDOT repaired 189 potholes at the request of residents and motorists today. DDOT crews also filled an additional 36 potholes identified by crew members during the day, for a total of 225 potholes filled on Tuesday, March 17, 2009.
One of the stops for the DDOT crews Tuesday was Adams Place, NE. Street and bridge maintenance workers Anitra Weems, Paulette Tinner, Theodore Rollins, and Terrence Gamble made multiple repairs in the 2200 block using the ‘throw and go’ method. They fill the holes with asphalt and tamp it down until more permanent repairs can be completed (see the pictures below).
