Final Repaving of M St this Weekend

The Georgetown Project will begin the final paving of M Street, NW, the weekend of April 30-May 2nd. The work-hours will be from 2:00 am-2:00 pm Friday/Saturday and Saturday/Sunday (rain date is May 14th-16th).

The milling and paving will be on M Street, between 34th and Thomas Jefferson Streets, and on a small portion of the Wisconsin Avenue/M Street intersection. Temporary detours will be necessary when two-way traffic cannot be maintained, particularly when M Street is closed from 3 am-8 am Saturday morning and when the Wisconsin/M Street intersection is closed. Westbound M Street traffic will be detoured to up 31st Street to west on N Street across Wisconsin and south on 34th Street to access points west.

Parking will be restricted on 31st Street near the M Street intersection. Eastbound traffic will be detoured north on 33rd Street and east on Prospect Street to Wisconsin Avenue and points east of the intersection.

The area from Key Bridge to 33rd Street is scheduled for completion by 7:00 am on Sunday for church traffic. Variable Message Signs (VMS) and detour signs will be displayed prominently to minimize congestion. Parking will be restricted and towing will be enforced, with the additional restrictions lifted as work allows.

This is the beginning of the final portion of work required to complete the M Street Phase of The Georgetown Project, the coordinated utility infrastructure upgrade and streetscape improvement project along M Street and Wisconsin Avenue. The business and residential communities were fully involved in planning and carrying out this project.
