Community Invited to Review Plans for H Street NE Corridor

(Washington, DC)  The District Department of Transportation invites the community, including residents, merchants and property owners, to the final community meeting for the H Street, NE, Corridor Streetscape and Transportation Study for the area on H Street, between North Capitol Street and 17th Street.

The meeting will be held at the Capital Children’s Museum Auditorium, at 3rd and H Streets, NE, on Wednesday, March 31, from 6:30-8:00 pm.

The concept plans to be discussed call for new lighting, sidewalks and trees, enhanced bus and transit service and the creation of plazas at the intersection of 8th and H Streets and at Bladensburg/Benning Road/Maryland Avenue, the ‘Starburst’ intersection.  In addition, DDOT plans to allow all-day parking on H Street by removing rush-hour parking restrictions.  These improvements will enhance the look and feel of H Street and make H Street a safer and better place to work, shop and live.

The meeting represents the culmination of nine months of work and reflects the integration of public comments from earlier public meetings, including a three-day planning charrette.  Funding and implementation strategies will also be discussed at the meeting.
