 Bicycle SharingLaunched in August 2008, SmartBikeDC is the first bike sharing program of its kind in the US. There are 10 stations in the greater downtown area with approximately 100 bikes. It costs $40 a year to sign up and users have 3 hours at a time to use a bike. The program is administered by Clear Channel Outdoor as part of a larger bus shelter advertising contract.
