Bicycle Transportation Program—Bicycle Registration
To register your bicycle, go to www.NationalBikeRegistry.com or call (800) 848-BIKE. You can also buy a registration kit at a local bike shop.
In the event your bicycle is stolen and recovered, the Metropolitan Police Department will check the identification number against the National Bike Registry (NBR). Many other police departments outside the District also check their inventory of stolen bicycles with the National Bike Registry. You can even register your bike with the NBR after it is stolen if you have the serial number.
Effective June 1, 2008 bicycle registration is no longer required for DC residents. Nonetheless, registration is encouraged to aid the recovery of your bike in case of theft.
