Mayor to be joined by Congresswoman Norton, DC Council Chair Brown, DC Councilmembers, and Civil Rights Heroes throughout the Day

WHAT/WHO: Mayor Vincent C. Gray, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton;
DC Council Chairman Kwame R. Brown; DC Councilmembers Marion Barry, Michael A. Brown, Jack Evans, Phil Mendelson, and other Councilmembers; The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights President Wade Henderson; and Greater Washington Urban League President Maudine Cooper will greet DC residents and others who visit the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial on DC Residents Day. Mayor Gray and these dignitaries also will provide interviews to the media about the historical significance of the day.

BACKGROUND: DC Residents Day was set aside for District residents and others to be among the first to see the Memorial. Washington, DC was the site of Dr. King’s most famous speech, “I Have a Dream,” delivered August 28, 1963.
