Mayor Vincent C. Gray Names Two Highly Respected Residents to Public Employee Relations Board (PERB)
The PERB Plays Important Role in Labor Duties
(WASHINGTON, DC) — Today Mayor Vincent C. Gray announced his selections to the Public Employee Relations Board (PERB), Charles J. Murphy, who will serve an additional term and Wynter P. Allen, who will be new to the board. The PERB arbitrates unfair labor practice complaints and certifies and decertifies labor organizations as bargaining units, among other responsibilities. Murphy will take the seat of a member whose term expired in December, and Allen will fill a vacancy.
A resident of Ward 6, Murphy is the Chairman of the Meridian Gate Development Company, a real estate firm. He also is an Associate Professor at Howard University’s School of Business, Department of Management, and holds a Ph.D. in business management and labor relations. He also has an MBA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a B.S. in psychology from Morgan State University.
Allen, who joined the Alden Law Group, PLLC, a labor and employment law firm in March 2010, is a resident of Ward 1. She also is as an attorney with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, and a graduate of the University of Chicago and Wake Forest University School of Law. Allen has volunteered for and has been a board member of numerous organizations, including the D. C. Employment Justice Center, For Love of Children and Suited for Change. Ms. Allen is also a current member of the Batala, an all woman percussion samba reggae band.
