(WASHINGTON, DC) — Mayor Vincent C. Gray today announced that he has appointed three well-respected citizens to the 3-member DC Board of Elections and Ethics (BOEE), an independent agency of the District of Columbia government that oversees policy and regulations related to elections, voter access and ethical standards for elected officials and city government employees.

Robert. L. Mallett will replace Togo West as Chairman of the BOEE; Stephen I. Danzansky, a registered Republican, will fulfill the minority party membership required by District law; and Devarieste Curry will fill the remaining seat.

“I am pleased with the quality, integrity and experience of these individuals who have agreed to serve the voters of the District,” said Mayor Gray. “I am confident in their abilities to enforce the rules of the ethical obligations of our elected officials in accordance with the laws of the District of Columbia.”
Robert L. Mallett serves as the Executive Vice President and General Counsel for the United Health Group, Public Markets. Prior to joining United Health Group, Mr. Mallett was a Senior Vice President with the Worldwide Policy & Public Affairs Office of Pfizer, Inc., and was the Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Commerce during the Clinton Administration. He served as City Administrator and Deputy Mayor under Mayor Sharon Pratt Kelly. He has been an adjunct professor at Georgetown University’s Law Center, and a Visiting Professor at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. A graduate of Morehouse College, Mr. Mallett earned his law degree from Harvard University. He resides in Ward 3.

Devarieste Curry is a partner with the McLeod, Watkinson & Miller law firm, where she specializes in business and commercial law, employment, litigation, and nonprofit law. Ms. Curry previously served as the Principal of the Curry Law Firm. She has held leadership positions with several bodies and organizations, including the District of Columbia Bar Legal Ethics Committee, Us Helping Us, and National Opera Association. Ms. Curry graduated from Stillman College and from Georgetown University School of Law. She is a resident of Ward 6.

Stephen I. Danzansky has led a prestigious career as an attorney and presidential appointee under three Republican administrations, serving as Deputy Assistant to the President for Economic Affairs, and as Deputy Assistant to the President and Director of Cabinet Affairs. He has been an adjunct professor at George Washington University School of Law. Mr. Danzansky also has served as an officer and director of numerous civic and cultural organizations, including the Washington Area Olympic Committee, Greater Washington Sports Authority, the YMCA, and the Washington Urban League. Danzansky graduated from Washington & Lee University and George Washington University School of Law. He is a resident of Ward 3.

Mayor Gray today also thanked outgoing BOEE members Togo West and Charles Lowery for their dedicated service.
