(WASHINGTON, DC) – Mayor Vincent C. Gray recently was appointed by Los Angeles Mayor Antonio R. Villaraigosa, President of the U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM), as Vice Chair of the Children, Health and Human Services Standing Committee. The committee responds to public-health priorities by exploring ways that mayors can effectively address those priorities and bring national attention to major health initiatives.

“I am honored that Mayor Villaraigosa appointed me to serve as Vice Chair of the Children, Health and Human Services Standing Committee,” said Mayor Gray. “This is an opportunity to put my long experience in non-profit and government work in the area of human services to work not only for the people of the District, but also for all of our nation’s cities.”

Mayor Gray’s expertise in the area of social services will allow him to contribute to the committee’s work in the development of a proactive, strategic agenda around critical local and national issues.

The Mayor joins the committee, which is chaired by Green Bay, Wisconsin Mayor James Schmitt. Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett also serves as a Vice Chair of the panel.
