(Washington, DC) – The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) reminds the public that the comment period for the M Street SE/SW Transportation Study Draft Report ends at 5 pm tomorrow Friday, November 30, 2012.

The report includes three broad transportation alternatives proposed as the result of information and public comments gathered throughout the study. The alternatives represent three starkly contrasting and illustrative scenarios for improving the multi-modal transportation network along M Street SE/SW and adjacent streets.

Comments on the draft report will help DDOT conclude this stage of the planning process by issuing a final report, planned for release the third week of December. In doing so, the agency can advance to a more detailed federal environmental planning, or National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), study of premium transit for the study area while also initiating short-term neighborhood transportation improvements.

The draft report, three-dimensional animated models of the proposed alternatives, presentations from the study’s three public meetings and related informational materials can be viewed by visiting www.anacostiawaterfront.org/MStreetSESWStudy External Website.

Comments should be emailed to ddot.awi@dc.gov, mailed to Colleen Hawkinson, District Department of Transportation, 55 M Street SE, Suite 500, Washington DC 20003 or faxed to her attention at (202) 671-0617.

The study is being conducted to identify transportation issues and potential solutions that will help to encourage livable and sustainable neighborhoods. The focus area lies within a roughly 1.7-square-mile area along M Street SE/SW and the Southwest Waterfront from 12th Street, SE to 14th Street, SW and from the Southwest/Southeast Freeway south to the Anacostia River/Washington Channel.
