The District of Columbia Department of Transportation (DDOT) will host an informational meeting on Thursday, April 8, 2010 to update the public on the final design plans for major streetscape improvements along Sherman Avenue between Park Road and Florida Avenue.
The Sherman Avenue corridor is primarily a residential neighborhood. The current layout of the roadway does not reflect the main function of the neighborhood. The new construction plans will:
- Make Sherman Avenue feel more residential rather than a commuter route by reducing vehicular lanes to one in each direction.
- Improve pedestrian safety by widening the sidewalks to make them ADA compliant, and upgrading the wheelchair ramps and crosswalk markings.
- Make Sherman Avenue more attractive by planting trees and shrubs along the corridor, upgrading street lights and upgrading traffic signals.
At the April 8th meeting, the project engineers will present the final design plans and solicit feedback and comments from the community.
